About MacBuddy
MacBuddy started from a simple frustration: every "best Mac apps" list online reads like an affiliate product catalogue. Ours doesn't. We publish an app when someone on the team has used it for at least two weeks, and we tell you what we actually think — including when to skip it.
How apps get listed
Every app in the catalog is downloaded, installed, and used on a real Mac — not in a VM, not in a sandbox — before it appears here. We document the actual version, the actual install size, and link only to the developer's own download or the Mac App Store.
Free, paid, and freemium
We cover all three. If a "free" app is really a trialware trap, we say so. If a paid app is worth every cent, we say that too. The price facet on every listing is the honest answer to the question most people open a browser to ask.
Editorial policy
No payment for listings or reviews. When a developer sends us a review build, the review discloses it. Opinions are the editor's and are not negotiated with anyone.
